Sören Sönksen studied music and history at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media and the Leibniz University of Hanover, majoring in piano (Roland Krüger), music theory (Volker Helbing) and musicology (Stefan Weiss).
Since 2013 he teaches music theory and ear training at the HMTM Hannover, since 2015 also at the HfM Dresden. His papers The idea of the silent foundation in Rameau, Kirnberger and Sechter as well asThough this is madness, yet there’s method in it were awarded in the framework of the scientific essay competitions of the Society for Music Theory (GMTH). In addition to his work in music theory research and teaching, Sören Sönksen works as a church musician and choir director.
